Eric Potthast began playing tennis in his hometown of Fort Wayne, IN.  A three-year letterman, his senior year he played #2 Varsity Singles (behind the 1997 Individual State Champion.)  The summer following his high school graduation he began his tennis coaching career with the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department!  He went on to play two years of collegiate tennis at Methodist College- North Carolina.  Eric graduated from Indiana University- Bloomington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology (the study of the movement of the body).

He is a USPTA member, Head Coach of the Lady Raiders at Cardinal Ritter High School- Indianapolis, and has been a West Indy Racquet Club Tennis Pro since the fall of 2009. Eric has a wife, has a son, and a daughter!

Paul Thomas: USPTA Professional 1

Paul joins the West Indy Tennis pro staff with a rich and varied tennis background.  Paul was a 4-time Indiana State Closed Junior Singles Champion (at Elkhart, IN) and was nationally ranked.  He competed for 4 years on Ball State University’s Varsity team on a full Athletic Scholarship.

Formerly a pro at the Indianapolis Tennis Center from 2000 to 2010, Paul has also served as Head Pro and Director of Tennis at clubs in Indiana, Michigan and Florida since the 1980s.  Paul was formerly the Head Coach of the Central Indiana Jr. Davis Cup Team , served as CITA/USTA Area Training Center Coach for top juniors, and ran the Paul Thomas Tennis Academy in Florida and Michigan.  Paul has personally coached several “Top 20″ nationally ranked juniors and a handfuld of national champions.  Paul also served as a Clinician/Speaker for USPTA workshops and conventions in the ’70s, ’80s, and early ’90s while also being a featured columnist for the CrossCourt News (Chicago), Florida Tennis (Palm Beach) and Indiana Tennis magazines with his “Taking You To The Top” column.

Paul is excited about working alongside his West Indy teammates and will offer help where needed.

Micah Torgersen: USPTR Certified Professional

Micah hails from New Palestine, Indiana where he graduated in 1998. Upon graduation, Micah attended Anderson University where he played tennis (3 years) and basketball (1 year). Micah was twice named to the all-conference tennis team.

After graduating from Anderson University in 2002, he moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina where he taught at the Van Der Meer Tennis University. He has been teaching since 2002 and is a USPTR Certified Professional. Micah has served as the head boy’s tennis coach at Franklin Central High School since 2004. Micah has also been involved with the girl’s program at Franklin Central and has coached at the college level.
